As you may already know we purchased a summer house a month or so ago and after it taking all day to put together the fun part could be started, the decorating of it.We had a very small budget for this so it has taken us awhile to find what we needed, but we managed it.
The first thing was to source the paint as the summer house was a really horrible orange…as you can see from this photo of it half painted.
We found the paint in a less than half price sale in our local Asda store,we had to change our first colour choice as they didn’t have the colour we wanted,so we chose a white/grey colour for the door and pale green for the rest of the outside. In the end the two tins of paint cost us around the £12 mark.
We had some old brass handles that we spray painted black to add onto the doors and we picked up a black iron lock cover for £3.95 which finished the doors of nicely.
The inside of the summer house we just painted pure white as we already had it and it took lots and lots of coats (the hubs was not happy as he was the one doing the painting !) but it now looks lovely and bright so well worth it.
For the furnishing of the inside we were really lucky as my very kind mother in law gave us a beautiful Laura Ashley rug in a blue and white check and as we were walking home one day we saw a little white table/shelving unit in some ones garden they were throwing out and they said we could take it and after a coat of white paint it was perfect for what we needed.
On a trip to the car boot sale we picked up 3 directors chairs in a blue and white stripe for £15 and two large plates to hang on the wall for 50p each.
In the shop Dunelm we bought 3 blue picture frames for 49p and I used some spare oilcloth I had left over from making the bunting for the side of the summer house,to put into the frames….
Then we all went beach combing to look for shells to display….
There were a few other bits and bobs we picked up along the way for a couple of pounds but all in all it cost us very little to do.We are very happy with how it has turned out and have been using it a lot,it is a lovely place for me to sew,the kids to chill and the hubs likes sitting in it when it rains which is just as well as it has been raining a lot ! What do you think of it,have you a place you like to escape to ? My husband would have been happy with a shed to escape to when he has enough of us but this is so much better I tell him as well as prettier.
It is also a good place for me to photograph my stock for my shop and a delightful place to sit and sew looking out over the garden. As we like a little shabby chic we are naming it our shabby shack and I like to think of it as my studio but sshh don’t tell the hubs that !!!
Anyway thanks for putting up with my ramblings and I hope you all have a lovely rest of your weekend I am now going to sit in the summer house and have a cuppa. Oh and before I forget I hope for all of you that had children starting back at school this week that it went well, mine go back on Monday. Tabitha 🙂
