On the go sewing roll

Whilst storm Imogen roared outside my windows yesterday I snuggled in tight and did a spot of sewing for my Etsy shop at the same time praying that the fence panels would not blow away and that the trees in my garden would stay standing ! So the lights were switched on,the sewing machine set up and the coffee pot at the ready for a lovely few hours of sewing.

I always have a notebook where I jot down all the things I would like to make and any ideas I have.So it was this trusty notebook that I turned to yesterday and came up with making a on the go sewing roll. I have in my shop sewing bags and needle cases and I wanted to add to this collection and a sewing roll seemed just the thing as I had really liked the one in my Merchant and Mills Sewing Book.

I decided to make my own version and to use a black linen for the inside and the ties with a black and cream floral medium weight cotton for the pockets,pin cushion and the outside of the sewing roll.When it was all finished and I had a little play to make sure everything you would need would fit in it I found it lacked anywhere for your sewing needles,so I made a small needle case and sewed it to the inside of the roll.

When its wrapped up it is just the right size to pop in your bag for sewing on the go and it holds everything securely in place.

I am going to try to put it in my shop later on today or tomorrow at the very latest.Do you sew on the go and if so what do you use to store your items in ?

I think this could be easily adapted to hold make up brushes,crochet hooks or even as a picnic roll to hold your knives and forks by just scaling the pattern up or down. The possibilities are endless.

Today I have to brave the rain as I need to make a trip to the post office to send my handmade makes to their new homes and then onto some more sewing and even more clearing out as we are slowly working our way through all the things we have collected over the years and the things that aren’t dear to our hearts any more are slowly being put on ebay for other people to love.
